October 7, 2011

At 19:59 hours on Friday, October 7th, Epworth Fire and EMS responded to a one vehicle accident on Old Highway Road, between Epworth and Farley, near the Matt Heitz residence. A car left the roadway striking a utility pole and snapping the pole off near the ground. Electrical power was knocked out in the towns of Epworth, Farley and Dyersville, plus the surrounding areas. One person (the driver) was in the vehicle. That person was transported to Mercy Health Center in Dubuque. The name and condition of the patient will not be released by the fire department. Power to the towns was restored about 45 minutes to one hour later. The road remained closed until utility crews were able to replace the pole.

Units: Ambulance 751, Rescue Engine 703 and Command 774

Mutual Aid: The Dubuque County Sheriff's Department and Alliant Energy
